Working at the house
Careers
The house employs 398 people: 195 makers at the bench, 63 in the Atelier in Seattle and 132 at the Penfield Works in Everett; 38 apprentices; and 165 people who keep its records, accounts, Salon and recall. The average maker has been with the house for seventeen years.
What the house offers
A bench of your own, kept for life. Your name on the certificate of everything you work on. Wages set by the Council each March and published to everyone in the house. A pension that the reserve guarantees. Four weeks’ vacation, and the week between Christmas and the new year, when the House is closed. Lunch at the long table.
Work at the bench is done at the bench. Some posts in the Provenance Office and Keeper Services may be worked partly from home.
Current vacancies
Journeyman feather-setter
The Atelier, Seattle · Permanent, full time. From $71,400. · Closes 27 November 2026
The feather room needs a seventh setter. You will have completed an apprenticeship in feather-setting, at this house or another, or have equivalent experience in conservation or millinery, and you will be able to hold your breath for longer than most people. The work is mostly on heritage restorations while the house makes no new feathered pieces.
Clerk to the Provenance Office
The House, Seattle · Permanent, full time. From $58,900. · Closes 4 December 2026
The Provenance Office writes, checks and keeps every certificate the house issues, and answers every question about them. You will write a clear hand, read an old one, and enjoy finding out that two records disagree. Experience in an archive, a county recorder’s office or an attorney’s office is welcome. Reports to Rachael Rosen.
Correspondence clerk, the Recall Office
Everett · Fixed term to 31 December 2027, full time. From $54,200. · Closes open until filled
The Recall Office answers every letter about the Nexus-6 within two working days. You will read the letters, match the papers they describe against the Register, and draft replies for the Director’s signature. Discretion is essential. You will be shown the extranet on your first morning, at the front desk.
Tuner
The Penfield Works, Everett · Permanent, full time. · Closes recruitment paused
Tuners set every Penfield instrument by hand in one of the nine tuning rooms at the Penfield Works. Recruitment is paused while the license for the Mk IV is suspended. The house will reopen it when the audit concludes, and will write to everyone who has already applied.
How to apply
Write to house@rosenassociation.org with the title of the post, a letter saying why you want it and, for posts at the bench, photographs or drawings of something you have made. The house does not use application forms and does not ask for a résumé, though it will read one if you send it. Every application is answered within the week.
